This backyard in New Harmony, Utah is a great example of what steady, deliberate work looks like when a project is done right. The property sits against a stunning mountain backdrop, and the goal from the start was to build something that felt intentional - clean lines, smart structure, and a space the homeowners would actually want to use every day.
We started with the groundwork. Getting the layout dialed in early is everything on a project like this. You can see the laser level set up on site - that's not just for show. Precise grading and elevation control are what separate a retaining wall that holds for decades from one that shifts and settles after a couple of winters. We take that part seriously.
The retaining wall itself is built from block that fits the natural character of the area. It follows the curve of the yard, creates a defined upper terrace, and ties the whole space together visually. Above the wall, framing is going in for what will be a functional, organized planting or garden area. Every layer of this build has a purpose.
And here's where it's all headed - a fully finished outdoor living space with a paver patio, paver steps flanked by low seat walls, and a covered timber gazebo. The pavers run clean and level from the lower yard all the way up to the seating area above. That kind of flow from grade to elevated space doesn't happen by accident. It takes planning, the right materials, and crews who know what they're doing.
Projects like this one don't happen overnight, and we wouldn't want them to. Good landscaping is built in layers - retaining walls first, then structure, then the finishing details that make it feel complete. We're proud to work with homeowners who trust the process and let us bring their vision to life the right way.
