When it comes to outdoor living spaces, the concrete slab underneath everything else is the part most people never think about - until it fails. Getting the base right from the start is what separates a space that lasts decades from one that cracks, shifts, and causes headaches down the road.

Here's what we were working with on this one - a beautiful property set against an incredible rocky backdrop, with the goal of creating a solid outdoor space that fits naturally into the landscape. The prep work, the forming, the pour - all of it done with care before a single finishing touch goes on top.

We take flatwork seriously. A smooth, properly finished concrete slab isn't just about looks. It's about making sure the surface cures evenly, that the expansion joints are placed right, and that the edges are clean and true. All of that matters for whatever gets built next - whether that's a patio cover, a structure, or just a clean outdoor entertaining area.

The wood form framing is still in place here, which gives you a good sense of where this slab sits in relation to the surrounding landscape. Clean lines, level pour, and consistent finish across the whole surface. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every job, regardless of size.

A lot of crews rush the concrete phase because it feels like just a stepping stone to the more visible work. We don't see it that way. What you build on top is only as good as what's underneath.
