Old Cracked Garage Slab Removed and Replaced the Right Way

Cracked, uneven garage concrete isn't just an eyesore - it's a problem that gets worse the longer you wait. Once concrete starts to fail, patching it only buys time. The only real fix is a full removal and replacement done correctly from the ground up.

Here's what that process actually looks like. We started by breaking out the old slab completely and hauling it off. You can see the demolished chunks loaded up in the truck bed - that's all the old concrete gone for good. No grinding it down, no slapping a new layer over a bad base. It came out.

Once the slab was out, we got to work on the base. We brought in fresh gravel, spread it, watered it down, and ran compactors over it - two of them - to make sure everything was tight and stable. That step is what separates a slab that lasts from one that shifts and cracks again in a few years. The base work is where you win or lose on a job like this.

With the subbase properly compacted and the garage protected with poly sheeting to keep the rest of the space clean, we poured and finished the new slab. The result is a smooth, flat surface with clean control joints - built to hold up under daily use.
