This one started with a pool demolition. Once that was out of the way, we had a blank slate - and a real opportunity to build something the whole family could actually use every day.
The plan was simple: a big open play area covered in artificial turf, a flagstone patio that flows naturally into the space, and a built-in fire pit as the centerpiece for evenings outside. No fuss, no complicated layout. Just a clean, functional yard that works for kids running around and adults who want somewhere comfortable to sit.
What makes artificial turf the right call for a space like this is the consistency. It stays green, it stays soft, and it doesn't need watering, mowing, or reseeding. For a family yard that's going to get heavy foot traffic, that's a big deal. The flagstone ties everything together without making the space feel overly formal - it gives you defined zones without hard boundaries.
The fire pit area anchors the back of the patio perfectly. Surrounded by flagstone and with seating right there, it becomes a natural gathering spot. Add in the fresh mulch beds along the perimeter and the covered space off to the side, and you've got a yard that's genuinely ready for every part of the day - morning coffee, afternoon play, evening fire.
This is the kind of backyard that stops feeling like a chore and starts feeling like part of your home. No sprinkler schedules, no dead patches, no mud after rain. Just a space that's ready when you are.
